Brette will be fresh off a trip down to Patagonia where she is currently attempting the first free ascent of Riders On The Storm, a mega 40 pitch route on the east face of Torre Central, with Mayan Gobat-Smith. She will bring stories and never seen before images from her climb (hopefully they can grab the coveted first free ascent, go Brette!) to the VIMFF stage.
Brette Harrington is a professional climber best recognized for her ascents in the alpine and Big wall realms. Having learned the basics of wall climbing and multipitch free climbing on the Squamish Chief, BC, she has then taken those skills to Yosemite where she has both free climbed and speed climbed various lines on El Capitan. In the February of 2015 she made the first free solo ascent of the 750m Patagonian tower Saint-Exupéry becoming the first woman to solo any of the peaks in the massif. Her desire to explore has lead her to remote places such as Baffin Island in 2016 where she established two new lines on Great Sail Peak, 1100m; The Northwest Turret, 13a, A2, and The West Buttress,12a. She has also established new routes in the Canadian Rockies, The Chinese Puzzle Wall, and The Waddington Range, Canada. This includes, Auroraphobia 13b, 300m, Waiprous River Valley, the first ascent of The Chinese Puzzle Wall, Hidden Dragon, 12b, 500m and Straight no Chaser, 11a, 1500m, Serra 2. Brette values the creativity and adventure in climbing where unforeseen challenges spark imagination and test her adaptability. By combining her current skills and gaining more experience in the mountains she aims to evolve her climbing into ever more intricate projects.
