Paddling to Paulatuk
Growing up on a farm in the prairies, Emily loved exploring in the outdoors and the wide-open spaces of endless farm fields. Hearing stories from her parents who spent 8 years living in Yellowknife, the Canadian North always drew her curiosity. During university, while studying Outdoor Education, she had the chance to head North both for study purposes and to work as a guide on the Nahanni River in NWT. Going long and going North fit together in her mind, and when offered a position on a team of four looking to kayak the Northwest Passage, she couldn’t pass it up.
In ‘Paddling to Paulatuk’, Emily will share about a sea kayaking adventure on the Arctic Ocean, traveling 900km from Inuvik to Paulatuk, NWT. A trip that was first intended to cover much greater distances, the team learned first hand about realistic expectations and modern day expeditions. Come and enjoy snap shots of the Arctic Coastline and stories of the challenges and insights of the journey, including portaging sea kayaks across the tundra, the crux of remote Northern expeditions, and a trip ending hand injury.
