Brent Seal and James Frystak will present their funny, challenging and inspiring journey to North America’s highest mountain – Denali (20, 310 ft). On June 10th, 2016, Brent became the first person in history living with schizophrenia to summit Denali. Schizophrenia is considered by the United Nations as one of the most debilitating diseases on the planet and most people diagnosed do not return to previous levels of functioning.
Brent and James, along with their climbing partner Clayton Matthews, summited Denali self-guided after 14 days on the mountain. None of them had been on the mountain before.
The MINDvsMOUNTAIN Denali presentation is one of overcoming the challenges in front of us - both physical and mental - and believing in the strength within ourselves and each other to push through the barriers, past
the resistance to pursue the wild dreams that make us come alive.
From the highest peak in North America to a National Geographic expedition in the ice caves of a volcano, James Frystak has captured the magnificence of the outdoors through photography. From a small farming town in Southern Ontario, James left home at 19 with a hockey bag full of clothes and a $20 point-and-shoot camera. 14 years later, he lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with his fiancé and Chihuahua, working as a professional Adventure and Action Sports Photographer and Filmmaker.
