Meet Nina Caprez!
Nina Caprez is a professional climber from Switzerland who specializes in hard multi-pitch climbing - she seeks out the most aesthetic, hard, sustained climbs in the world and her climbing resume is littered with first ascents and sought after second ascents. Nina will be presenting, along with Jonathan Siegrist, at the Rock Climbing Show on Thurs, Feb 16 at the Rio Theatre. We sat down with Nina to find out a little more about her!
I grew up in the Swiss mountains, so very early on I started to play in my back garden. By the age of 13 I started mountaineering, and discovered the joys of sport climbing at 17. I was addicted and began to progress very quickly. I sent my first 8a (5.13b) when I was 19 and did a lot of competitions and bouldering. Finally I discovered that I had a special talent for high walls. I have always followed my heart, my motivations and seeked to enjoy life to the fullest.
One thing that makes climbing fantastic is how varied and diverse it can be – what is your favourite style and discipline of climbing? And why?
Where I feel the most comfortable is multi-pitch climbing. There I feel very free. But I have to say that I practice all disciplines because I like the variation. Indoor bouldering, sport climbing and also mountaineering.
We are very excited to bring you back to Vancouver – what will be the focus of your presentation this year?
I will talk about a multi-pitch route I climbed with my wonderful friend, Barbara Zangerl, in the Ratikon area of Switzerland. It's about our long partnership and friendship, sharing the same values in climbing and about love and laughs.
