Steve Tersmette & Shawn Emmett
2017 Purcell Traverse: 280 Kilometers On Foot In 24 Days
The story of Shawn Emmett’s and Steve Tersmette’s 2017 MEC Adventure Grant expedition: travel nearly 280 km by roughly combining the Southern Purcell Traverse and the Bugaboos to Rogers Pass traverse, two of the grand ski traverses in Western Canada, in the summertime on foot. They got it done, but it was far from easy.
Steve Tersmette is an aspiring dirtbag and adventurer living in Kimberley, BC. He enjoys long walks in the snow, craft beer and topographic maps.
Shawn Emmett grew up with an intrinsic passion for the outdoors, especially the mountains. He was bound and determined to create a lifestyle that allowed work and play to coexist in the same environment. Settling in Kimberley, BC, Shawn was able to apply his occupation of critical care nursing and then pursue peaks on his days off with ease. Being located in the Purcells, has given Shawn and his good buddy Steve the opportunity to hone their skillsets on many local peaks, visit and stay in several alpine huts and play in the famed Bugaboos often. Quietly enthusiastic, self reflective, and determined could be words to describe this gentle natured beast when challenged with a task at hand. Blessed and fortunate is what he feels with the accomplishment of the Purcell Traverse.
