Born in Gaurishankar‑1, Dolakha, Nepal, in 1970, Mingma Tsiri Sherpa began working in tourism in 1991 as a porter. Today, he stands as a national hero and a leading figure in high-altitude guiding. With over 20 years of experience as a Trekking and Mountaineering Guide and Expedition Organizer, he is the founder of Ascent Himalayas Treks & Expedition (P) Ltd.
His extraordinary climbing résumé includes 19 summits of Mount Everest, along with becoming one of the first Nepalese climbers to summit K2 in 1997. Additional ascents: Dhaulagiri, Manaslu (three times), Shishapangma, Cho Oyu (four times), Tilicho, Bhrikuti, and Ama Dablam. In 2006, Mingma and his brothers were recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records for their collective achievement.
Renowned for his integrity, dedication, and reliability, Mingma continues to lead expeditions grounded in safety and respect—now inviting others to join him through his esteemed agency for expeditions that prioritize quality and trust.
Joining him on this journey are the following adventurers: Chhering Sherpa, Lakpa Dorjee Sherpa & Danurbu Sherpa.
Featuring Mingma himself, Everest Dark is a powerful 2025 documentary directed by Jereme Watt that offers a rare, locally rooted perspective on Everest. The film follows Mingma as he undertakes a courageous and spiritually charged mission: returning to Everest’s “Death Zone” to recover a fallen climber’s body and appease the mountain gods. The narrative delves deep into Sherpa culture, the devastating human toll of Everest climbs, and the spiritual reverence the locals harbor for this sacred landscape.
Mingma’s quest stems from a haunting sense of responsibility—after witnessing climbing fatalities and the desecration of Everest, he felt compelled to act not for record-setting, but to restore peace and respect.
