Job Description: Junior Digital Marketing Specialist

Reports To: Festival and Marketing Manager
Job Type: Part-Time, Contract, year round
Candidates MUST have a valid work permit for Canada

The ideal candidate is passionate about the outdoors, is looking for part-time contract work, and is comfortable working from home. We are a small but dedicated non-profit organization with a vision to inspire adventurous thought and action for the betterment of people and the planet.

Role

The role of the Junior Digital Marketing Specialist is to manage the VIMFF marketing channels for all VIMFF events throughout the year. This includes creating and executing a social media strategy that aligns with overarching goals and messaging, finding opportunities to engage with and highlight the community, leveraging partnerships to grow our channel and build upon and refine the organization’s existing social media practices and processes.

Responsibilities

Specifically, the VIMFF Junior Digital Marketing Specialist is responsible to: 

Digital Marketing & Paid Advertising Management 

  • Work with the Marketing manager on designing and implementing digital marketing strategy to align with marketing and Festival growth goals including organic posts and paid advertising 
  • Create and send email newsletters with list health, optimization and growth top of mind 
  • Create and publish relevant, original, high-quality content across all channels including copy 
  • Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns 
  • Find opportunities to connect with community and partners in new ways to create relevant and engaging content 
  • Leverage door prizes, contests, and raffles as a way to collect more contacts & emails leading up to and during the festival 
  • Work with our Graphic Designer as needed for graphics relating to community outreach, email newsletters and social media. Provide creative briefs as necessary 
  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences 
  • Maintain and grow community and corporate partner list and generate custom content as needed 
  • Oversee social media accounts’ design 
  • Suggest and implement new features to develop brand awareness, such as promotions and competitions 
  • Provide regular reporting on how channels are performing as well as end-of-event recap reporting and debriefs 
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media and email, design tools and applications 
  • Represent VIMFF by engaging in online communities

Marketing Strategy and Outreach Management 

  • Coordinate with Marketing Manager and Website Designer ahead of launches, page updates etc. where social posts/emails are linking back to the website 
  • Work with Festival Director, Festival Manager, Marketing Manager and Programming Director during festival times to analyze which shows/events need more promotion and create strategy as needed 
  • Work with the Graphic Designer to create and implement brand guidelines 
  • Work closely with Partnerships Manager, Partnerships Administrator and PR Manager as required to complete timely marketing deliverables on our channels for Festival partners 
  • Work with Graphic Designer to provide marketing assets for partners to help promote the event on their channels (email, social, etc.) along with suggested copy 
  • Create general marketing copy

Website Management 

  • Assist with website testing once content is populated ahead of launch
  • Report back to Marketing Manager and Website Designer of the changes needing to be made 

Advertising Support

  • Work with Festival Director, PR Manager, Marketing Manager and Graphic Designer to manage digital advertising calendar including specs and deadlines

General

  • Contribute to team meetings with respect to digital marketing
  • Present analytics and reports drawing insights for opportunities and adjustments
  • Organize and maintain social media/marketing resources, designs, calendars, etc. in digital format in the VIMFF Google Drive
  • Find opportunities to keep the VIMFF brand/channels and engaged through our off-season (July-September)
  • Assist with re-sizing gallery assets
The above list of responsibilities is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties as part of working within a small team.

Performance Expectations

The performance of the VIMFF Marketing Manager will be evaluated against the following expectations: 

  • Fulfilling all digital marketing duties in a timely, professional and consistent manner
  • Take initiative and lead on digital marketing projects and strategy execution 
  • Providing effective and timely communications, minutes and reports to staff 
  • Ability to work efficiently, meet tight deadlines, and ask for support as needed 
  • Collaborative teamwork — open, respectful, enthusiastic 
  • Ability to express concerns, aspirations, and ideas openly and in a timely manner 
  • Providing notice when you will be away or when your work hours vary substantially

By way of support, the Marketing Manager can rely on having:

Hours

Weekly hours will vary from 10-20 hours per week, depending on the time of year. The busiest months will be October through March with extra hours required during in-person event weeks in November and February. In addition, new and special events may pop up at other times of the year. The ideal candidate is a contractor who has the flexibility to support this part-time position with varied hours throughout the year.

  • ~15-20 hours/week from October-March (peak) 
  • ~10-15 hours/week April-June (Summer Fest) 
  • ~10-15 hours/week July-August (off-peak, planning) 

Compensation: Starting at $25 per hour, depending on experience

Preferred start date: mid August 2024
