Ever since filmmaker Ching Yu became a mother, she has developed a deep appreciation for observing the wonder in children’s eyes as they explore nature. “”Find Me Outside”” is a family outdoor documentary in which Ching follows four families in western Canada to capture the joy of children engaged in various outdoor activities related to their niche sports.
Diudiu and Leo, both Mandarin-speaking immigrants’ children, navigate the slopes of the Canadian Rockies as they ski. Celeste, deeply rooted in her Indigenous horse culture, showcases the beauty of riding Indian Horse Relay in the Alberta Prairie. Anika, born into a family of Indian and Austrian climbers, climbs the rocks in her neighbourhood of Squamish, BC. Jade and Ryan, adventurous coldwater surfing girls from Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, ride the waves with enthusiasm.
Ching Yu was the recipient of the VIMFF x Arc’teryx Adventure Film grant in 2023 that supports the development of Canadian adventure filmmakers.
