In the heart of the Karakoram, among some of the most hostile and majestic mountains on Earth, a simple and absolute dream is born: to climb together, to push beyond personal limits, and to return home. K2 – Two Friends and a Dream follows the expedition of two Italian mountaineers who, in the summer of 2024, attempt Broad Peak and K2 without supplemental oxygen or external support, driven by the ambitious goal of completing a ski descent from the world’s second-highest mountain.
The film traces their journey from the very beginning, starting with the long approach across the Baltoro Glacier—days suspended in silence and waiting, where time is measured by weather windows and physical exhaustion. As altitude increases, images grow thinner and more fragile, immersing the viewer in an extreme environment where every decision can mark the difference between success and survival.
When a brief window of good weather finally opens, the expedition enters its most delicate phase. The ascent of K2 becomes not only a physical challenge, but a deeply human one. The mountain demands its price: an unexpected fracture, a fall into a crevasse, and the realization that the line between a dream fulfilled and a tragedy is as thin as a ridge of ice.
K2 – Two Friends and a Dream is not a film about records, nor a celebration of conquest. It is a story of friendship put to the test, of human vulnerability in the face of nature, and of the weight of difficult choices. Through intimate imagery, high-altitude footage, and a narrative that alternates between tension and silence, the film explores what remains when the final objective slips away—and what truly matters is finding the way back together.
