Introducing the New Lines: Emerging Filmmakers Grant
Are you an emerging filmmaker from an underrepresented community with a story to tell from the edge of the wild?
The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) is proud to launch the New Lines: Emerging Filmmakers Grant, an initiative designed to support bold new voices in adventure storytelling. Funded by the City of Vancouver, this grant offers $5,500 and mentorship support to one emerging filmmaker to create a short film that explores mountain adventure from a fresh and underrepresented perspective.
What You’ll Receive:
- $5,500 CAD in production funding
- Mentorship from an experienced adventure filmmaker
- Premiere screening at VIMFF 2026
- Ongoing support from the VIMFF programming team
Who Should Apply:
We’re looking for emerging filmmakers who identify as part of an underrepresented community, including (but not limited to):
- Indigenous creators
- Racialized individuals
- LGBTQIA2S+
- People with disabilities
- Women and gender-diverse storytellers
- Recent immigrants
If you’re ready to carve new lines in both film and landscape, this is your moment.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be an emerging filmmaker (no more than 2 professional directing credits; no major festival premieres)
- Identify as part of an underrepresented community as specified but not limited to the examples listed under “Who Should Apply” above
- Must be a legal resident of the City of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Applications from individuals residing outside the City of Vancouver, including other areas of Greater Vancouver (eg. North Vancouver, Burnaby etc), are not eligible for this grant.
- Be able to complete production between January 20, 2026 and May 2026

- Applications open: Dec 1, 2025
- Deadline to apply: Jan 5, 2026
- Recipient announced: Jan 20, 2025
- Production Period: Jan 20, 2026 – May 2026
- Premiere: VIMFF Fall Series 2026
