Taylor Shaffer is an emerging photographer and expedition cinematographer who joins Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell on a 2,500‑mile push into Alaska’s Tongass National Forest to attempt an audacious climb. The film traces Shaffer’s uncertain leap from student to storyteller, armed with a minimal kit and a restless curiosity. Good Luck, Kid asks what it takes to find a voice when everything is on the line, how risk tests character, how collaboration remakes ambition, and how a single trip can redefine a life’s direction.

I began as an expedition climber and landscape artist, living for years in a tent beneath the walls of U.S. National Parks and in the Himalayas. I carried canvases into the mountains, sometimes making pigments from the earth itself. In 2013, this fusion of climbing and storytelling earned me recognition as a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year.
Today, I’m a commercial and documentary filmmaker, expedition climber for The North Face, and photojournalist for Sony and National Geographic. My work includes MERU (Sundance Audience Award) and Sherpa (TIFF, Telluride), along with campaigns for Apple, Google, DJI, and Nike.
