Robin Goomes grew up on the Chatham Islands, a tiny archipelago 800 kilometers off the east coast of New Zealand, riding dirt bikes, fishing, beach combing, and enjoying the peaceful community of close-knit Iwi families there. Robin dreamt of becoming a professional mountain bike athlete, but living so far from the industry epicenter of North America, it did not seem like a reality. She had never competed outside New Zealand, and it was rare for women to secure invites in a male-dominated sport. Despite these uncertainties and the ever-present risk of injury, she decided to roll the dice through hard work and perseverance, becoming the first Red Bull Rampage Women’s Champion, the world’s preeminent Freeride mountain bike competition.
