The Moment

Director: Darcy Hennessey Turenne
Origin: Canada
Year of Production: 2017
Duration: 75 min

In the backwoods of British Columbia, Canada, three small but dedicated crews of adventure seekers were quietly changing the course of a sport and carving their paths in history. And it was all happening unbeknownst to each other, the cycling world, and ultimately themselves. This film is the origin story of a small movement of mountain bikers and filmmakers who rose up, challenged the status quo, and turned the sport of cycling on its head. All they wanted was to feel free with no rules, no sponsors, and no claim; Just the raw freedom of riding their bicycles down the unthinkable. This film is about the tipping point when freeride mountain biking became a global sports phenomenon, and the people who were passionate enough to make it happen in the face of industry adversity, injury, and heartache. This is the story of the moment that changed everything and was the birth of the sport that nobody wanted.

Director: Darcy Hennessey Turenne

While completing an MA in Intercultural Communications at Royal Roads University, Darcy purchased a video camera and quickly found her passion for storytelling and visual arts.

Since then, Darcy has written and directed short films, commercials, and music videos for clients ranging from Coca Cola to Patagonia to Jive Records. Her first feature film — an environmental snowboard documentary featuring David Suzuki called “The Little Things” — won a host of awards including the Best Environmental Film at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Fest, the prestigious “Cold Smoke Award”, and was picked up for the Banff World Tour. Her latest film, “Jackieland”, was accepted to the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and her latest commercial for UBC Studios recently won a Platinum Hermes Creative award.

Her filming has brought her to Mongolia, India, Bolivia, Indonesia, Rwanda, The Republic of Georgia, Austria, Italy, Nicaragua, Kenya, Cambodia, Turkey, and Qatar and many other exotic locals — both near and far.
