Planning any alpine adventures this winter? Join us in-store for a workshop and screening in partnership with Avalanche Canada and Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. Check out snow safety presentations, get hands-on with the latest backcountry safety gear, catch a VIMFF film screening and get a chance to win awesome prizes from Mammut and Arc’teryx.
After a two-year attempt, ski mountaineers Christina ‘Lusti’ Lustenberger and Jim Morrison, joined by Nick McNutt and Chantel Astorga, ski the first descent of the Great Trango Glacier. They navigate risk, grapple with grief, and face physical danger as they push the limits of human experience. At 6,000 meters, constant exposure tests their resolve, but it’s the unspoken trust and support within their expedition team that allows them to face the unimaginable together.
Avalanche Canada is a non-government, not-for-profit organization dedicated to public avalanche safety. They issue daily avalanche forecasts throughout the winter for much of the mountainous regions of western Canada, providing this free information via their website and their app: Avalanche Canada Mobile.
They also coordinate and deliver avalanche awareness and education programs, provide curriculum and support to instructors of Avalanche Canada training programs, act as a central point-of-contact for avalanche information and work closely with many different avalanche research projects, both at home and abroad.
