Craig Romano

Craig Romano is one of the most prolific trail guidebook authors in the Pacific Northwest, having penned more than two dozen books including Day Hiking North Cascades, Backpacking Washington, Urban Trails Bellingham and the soon to be released Urban Trails Vancouver BC. The New England native moved to Washington state in 1989 and has since hiked more than 33,000 miles in the Evergreen state alone and several thousand miles in British Columbia. An avid runner as well, Craig has run over 50 marathons and ultra runs including the Boston Marathon. He recently completed his first 100K, the Cuyamaca Adventure Run at the age of 62. Craig’s Columbia Highlands: Exploring Washington’s Last Frontier was recognized in 2010 by Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed and State Librarian Jan Walsh as a Washington Reads book for its contribution to Washington’s cultural heritage. Romano was also honored as a Literary Lion by the King County Library Foundation. Craig also provides content for numerous publications, tourism websites, the TreadMap App and hikeoftheweek.com. When not hiking, running, or writing, he can be found napping with his wife, son, and Maine coon kitty at his home in Skagit County, Washington.

From Boots on the Ground to Books and Blogs: How to Write About the Outdoors

Join our welcoming panel of authors to learn the good, the bad and the ugly about writing and publishing outdoor-themed books, blogs, web content, and articles; and even how we make money. We’ll also talk about addressing outdoor ethics, the challenges of crowded trails and parks and how to mitigate overuse, reaching diverse audiences, and respectfully including Indigenous context. We also want to hear from you and look forward to your questions.
