Inspired by a curiosity and respect for Howe Sound, Drew Copeland and Jon Chiang, embarked on a journey to capture the story through photography and film about the water that flows into Howe Sound, after being awarded a MEC Adventure Grant in 2018.
Last year, Elissa Cummings was awarded one of the MEC Adventure Grants to bike along the spine of the Rocky Mountain Chain – 4300km from Jasper, AB, to the Mexican Border. VIMFF is extending the grant deadlines for the Arc’teryx Adventure Film Grant and the MEC Adventure Grant to January 12, 2018.
With the support of VIMFF and the MEC Adventure Grant Lorraine and Robin were able to bring their ambitious human powered adventure goal to fruition. They embarked on a multi-day bike packing expedition on a route through the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile through wild unmapped trails and canyons.
When VIMFF joined forces with Mountain Equipment Co-op to launch an Adventure Grant, the goal was to find local teams with exploratory and human powered objectives in adventurous arenas that were unique and ambitious in nature. It was clear that Shawn Emmette’s and Steve Tersmette’s goals were the epitome of adventurous: travel nearly 280 km on foot by roughly combining the Southern Purcell Traverse and the Bugaboos to Rogers Pass traverse, two of the grand ski traverses in Western Canada.
