Jen would like to acknowledge that she lives, works and explores in the shared unceded territory of the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation.
Jennifer Godbout (she/her) known to many by her nickname Jibber. Is a backcountry split board guide, Search and Rescue Member, avalanche educator and forecaster based out of Whistler, BC. Transitioning from snowboard competitor, to coach, to guide seemed like a natural progression to avoid any chance of working indoors.
Jen enjoys being of service in her community and mentoring the next generation of snow scientists and big mountain riders. The irony of her childhood nickname is not lost on her.
Familiarity, Consistency, Acceptance, the Expert Halo, Scarcity, and Social Facilitation have been identified as part of the human factor involved in recreational avalanche accidents, close calls, and near misses. By learning to identify, recognize and understand these behaviors in ourselves and the people around us, we can make safer decisions in avalanche terrain.
Jen will be sharing personal stories, lessons learnt and three case studies for the audience to participate in that come from 20 years of experience in the field. Join in for a good time and in hopes that you catch yourself before making a fatal error in judgement.
