Robin Van Gyn is a professional big mountain snowboarder, filmmaker, and event director. She has had a storied 20yr career in the mountains, originating from a freestyle background to competition, and now expedition, storytelling, and mentorship. In her evolution as a snowboarder, she has worked alongside some of the greats in the sport and secured her space as one of the strongest athletes and voices in the snowboard industry. From appearing in major films, to making her own films and facilitating events for women, Robin continues to create new pathways in the sport all while having the most fun doing it. She currently resides on Vancouver Island with her partner Austen Sweetin and continues to spend her winters exploring the deepest corners of the snow world.
Big-mountain skier, filmmaker, and expedition leader Griffin Post and professional snowboarder and adventurer Robin Van Gyn join VIMFF to introduce The Lost Cache, the story of their extraordinary quest to solve an 85-year-old mountain mystery.
In 1937, legendary mountaineer and photographer Bradford Washburn was forced to abandon a cache of camera and climbing equipment deep on the Walsh Glacier in the Yukon after making the first ascent of Mount Lucania. More than eight decades later, the question remained: could it still be out there?
What followed was a multi-year search bringing together skiers, scientists and explorers to track the movement of a glacier and hunt for a piece of mountaineering history. Part expedition, part treasure hunt, and part exploration of obsession and curiosity, The Lost Cache asks why some unanswered questions refuse to let us go.
