An award-winning director of film and over 100 episodes of documentary television for Discovery, National Geographic and History channels worldwide, director Jereme Watt is known for his focus and care in drawing compelling stories from complicated characters. Jereme has over 20 years of experience in some of the most unforgiving environments in the world. For the past 10 years he has brought his camera to Nepal and dedicated himself to filming the incredible mountaineer Mingma Tsiri Sherpa in his quest to bring his captivating story to the big screen. Joined by Oscar-nominated executive producer Ina Fichman (Fire of Love), veteran EP and producer, Merit Jensen Carr and two the world’s top high altitude shooters in consultation with Mingma and the film’s co-producer/writer Mike Bodnarchuk, Jereme has crafted a stunning debut feature documentary about one man’s extraordinary attempt to recover a fallen body to bring peace to his beloved mountain and the Nepalese people.
Featuring Mingma himself, Everest Dark is a powerful 2025 documentary directed by Jereme Watt that offers a rare, locally rooted perspective on Everest. The film follows Mingma as he undertakes a courageous and spiritually charged mission: returning to Everest’s “Death Zone” to recover a fallen climber’s body and appease the mountain gods. The narrative delves deep into Sherpa culture, the devastating human toll of Everest climbs, and the spiritual reverence the locals harbor for this sacred landscape.
Mingma’s quest stems from a haunting sense of responsibility—after witnessing climbing fatalities and the desecration of Everest, he felt compelled to act not for record-setting, but to restore peace and respect.
