Home > VIMFF 2024 > Raz Peel
Raz came from a background in software and knew very little about avalanches before moving to Vancouver. Throughout the last decade, he has worked hard to fill the gaps. He will share a glimpse into the world of avalanches with you, pulling from a decade as a guide, coach, ski patroller, avalanche educator, Search and Rescue volunteer and paramedic. During this workshop, we will discuss accidents, statistics, risk profiles, gear updates and best practices in avalanche rescue.
This workshop is designed to equip winter sports enthusiasts and backcountry adventurers with essential knowledge on recognizing avalanche danger, understanding snowpack dynamics, and the technologies enabling avalanche rescue. Raz will share insight into the factors contributing to avalanche accidents, provide stories from accidents in the sea-to-sky region, and ensure you leave better prepared to enjoy the BC winter responsibly.
