Celebrating the best of mountain photography, the annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) competition welcomes submissions from around the world.
With less than a week to go until this year’s entry deadline (January 15, 2018 at 11:59pm), we thought we’d revisit the breathtaking photos from 2017 and get psyched for this year’s competition.

How it Works
The basic requirements to enter the VIMFF photo competition are simple: images must have a connection with mountains or wilderness.
Specific categories are:
- Mountain adventure & sport
- Mountain culture & people
- Mountain landscape
- Mountain painting
A distinguished group of photographers and outdoor community members then review the photos, and winners are announced at VIMFF in February. We are delighted to have Adam Gibbs, Lauren van Ingen, Jason Bagby, and Marlene Ford on this year’s committee, coordinated by VIMFF’s Photography Competition Organizer, Dylan Morgan.
With awards recognizing the top photos in each category, there are multiple opportunities to win. Extra awards are given for the best of BC, best animal, best environmental, and a grand prize is awarded to the best photo out of all selected images.
What do winners get? Prestige. Recognition throughout the festival. And prizes, of course. This year’s include stays in Bella Coola, where winners will be embarking on fully guided grizzly bear viewing tours with Kynoch Adventures on BC’s remote Central Coast, and enjoying the hospitality of Bella Coola Mountain Lodge.
